The Lane Cove Sustainability Action Group, together with other environmental groups rallied at Blues Point in North Sydney on Saturday 18th August in support of a National Container Deposit Scheme.
People are concerned with the amount of plastic waste in our oceans and fed up with the beverage industry blocking the CDS. CSIRO’s research scientist Denise Hardesty states ”One third of global marine debris, including bottles, cans and straws, can be sourced back to the beverage industry”.
A large 4.3 meter plastic beverage container was floated in the bay to encourage the government to vote Yes to CDS! View news coverage of the event here.
